Getting to Tetepare & What to Bring

You can travel from Australia, Fiji or Vanuatu to Tetepare Island in less than one day. The closest town to Tetepare Island is Munda, in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. Solomon Airlines fly directly from Brisbane, Australia to Munda (3 hour flight) or you can fly from Brisbane, Fiji or Vanuatu to the capital Honiara (3 hours) and then catch a domestic flight to Munda (1 hour). You will be met at Munda airport (sealed airstrip) by Ecolodge staff and then it is only a short private boat transfer (1.5 hour) to Tetepare Island by motorised boat.

Boat Transfers

The boat trip to Tetepare from Munda usually takes about 1-2 hours but can be longer in rough weather. It is a scenic journey along the coast of Rendova Island. Life jackets are provided. We recommend you bring sunscreen, a sunhat, sunglasses, a raincoat and a bottle of drinking water for the trip. Please note, the journey to Tetepare takes us outside the lagoon and on occasions we do encounter wind, swell, chop and waves on the trip, however all our boat drivers have more than 20 years of experience driving the routes to and from Tetepare in all conditions. The current cost of the trip, per boat, covers the cost of a driver and the petrol for the boat to come to Munda to collect you and then return to Tetepare with you on board. We endeavour to keep the price of the transfer as low as possible for guests, however, the price is dictated by the cost of fuel and Tetepare’s remoteness.

Please note, for safety reasons this trip should be made during daylight hours, and so if your flight arrives in Munda after 4pm, you will need to spend the night in Munda and travel to Tetepare the next morning. There is accommodation available at Agnes Lodge and several cheaper resthouses in Munda. Let us know if you need assistance with booking accommodation in Munda.
