Although Tetepare is now uninhabited, there are over 3500 descendants of the original Tetepare tribes living on neighbouring islands and provinces. The Tetepare Descendants Association represents these communities and provides support to them through a range of initiatives.
Tetepare Descendants’ Association (TDA)
When the threat of commercial logging loomed over Tetepare, the descendants of Tetepare’s former inhabitants came together and formed an alliance to become the Tetepare Descendants’ Association, or TDA. The goal was to protect and conserve the island for the benefit of all descendants and future generations.
TDA seeks fundings from donors to provide educational scholarships to children of Tetepare descendants. These scholarships allow children to attend high school and higher education.
The TDA supports local communities through a number of different programs including a leatherback turtle incentive program, sustainable fisheries program and through a Sustainable Livelihoods program.
